ZusammenfassungCardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of mortality in both sexes worldwide. Sex-specific differences in CVD are well established with emerging evidence indicating inherent biological, clinical and social differences. A better understanding of these sex-related differences is fundamental for health care providers and scientists in order to develop proper individualized cardiovascular prevention strategies. The NAKO Gesundheitsstudie (German National Cohort, GNC) constitutes a rich epidemiological resource to obtain comparably results to investigate sex differences in risk factors for various CVD outcomes. The overarching aim of this proposal is to investigate the sex differences in risk factors for CVD in participants from the German National Cohort baseline assessment. The specific aims are: i) to describe sex differences in risk factors for CVD, and whether they vary with age and markers of socioeconomic status, and ii) to compare cardiovascular risk (using established CVD risk scores) between sexes among study participants.
