ZusammenfassungA sedentary life style is a risk factor for several diseases. Brain plasticity and brain morphology are influenced by leisure physical activity. Most knowledge about the relation of physical activity and brain morphology relies on samples of older subjects. The aim of this study is to investigate how physical activity mediates the relation between age and brain morphology. To this end we plan to analyze the segmented gray matter MR-images and cortical thickness parameters of healthy subjects. These variables will be related to physical activity measures and self-reports. We expect a more pronounced effect of physical activity on hippocampal volume and on cortical thickness in those brain regions thinning with age.
