SummaryWe propose deep molecular characterization of a subsample of 5,000 NAKO participants to showcase the power and relevance of molecular interactions. Specifically, we propose to perform laboratory analyses to characterize epigenetic signatures, metabolomic/proteomic profiles in blood (requested) and urine (in kind contribution by Anna Köttgen, University Freiburg), serolomics characterizing antibodies against major infections, and microbiome data from feces, saliva and nasal swaps (based on DFG-funding). Jointly with the already funded genotyping, this dataset will spearhead novel discoveries together with the excellent deep phenotypic information available within NAKO. The study is a proof-of-concept study for highlighting the potential of NAKO to translate findings into exposome and systems medicine approaches.
