SummaryAgeing clocks are based on signatures of different biomarkers, evaluating biological ageing. These ageing clocks allow studies to evaluate the difference (gap) between age predicted via a biomarker signature vs. calendar age. A higher predicted age gap, i.e., predicted age greater than calendar age, indicates accelerated ageing. Accelerated ageing shows consistent associations with age-related conditions and mortality, beyond the associations observed for chronological age. A measure of predicated age (Phenotypic age or PhenoAge) can be calculated in NAKO using available biomarker levels. We propose to evaluate PhenoAge in individuals with a history of a cancer diagnosis (prevalent cases) and those who develop cancer after baseline recruitment into the study (incident cases).
