SummaryAlthough scientific evidence links several occupational factors to cardiovascular disease, work related cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are not consistently recognised or monitored across European Union Member States, limiting data comparability and visibility. IDEWE (Leuven, Belgium) has been commissioned by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU OSHA) to conduct a research project on quantitative data related to CVDs in the EU and its Member States. The project commenced in October 2025 and is scheduled to conclude in October 2026. The project aims to map and assess existing quantitative data sources on work related CVDs and to describe their relevance, limitations and data gaps at EU and national level. By providing a structured overview of available data sources, the project supports improved surveillance, research and evidence based prevention. Policy pointers will be developed to strengthen data collection and inform targeted prevention and policy making in the EU. The final report and policy briefs will be published on the EU OSHA website in early 2027. As part of the project, IDEWE will analyse selected data sources, including NAKO, to compare their content and derive insights into the prevalence, occupational risk factors and high risk sectors and worker groups associated with work related CVDs.
