SummaryThis project aims to develop and validate a proxy measure of somatic symptom burden within the German National Cohort (NAKO). Using existing questionnaire items corresponding to the eight domains of the Somatic Symptom Scale-8 (SSS-8), we will construct a standardized index that captures bodily distress in the population. The measure will be validated against psychological, behavioral, and biological health indicators and examined for its ability to predict health outcomes over time. Establishing this proxy will strengthen psychosomatic and public-health research within NAKO and facilitate future studies on mind-body interactions and health trajectories.
